Mellasat M Cabernet Sauvignon

Food Pairing: Chicken in a skillet with Garlic and Honey

When a serious day calls for a serious wine, look no further. This Cabernet Sauvignon is serious. Juicy dark fruits with the structure to back it up. It has notes of earth, smoke, leather, over ripe fruits, everything you want in an eight-year-old Cab. This Cabernet Sauvignon is a heavy hitter and conventional wisdom would have you pair this with an equally heavy hitting steak. I however like to do something interesting with my pairing and decided on chicken. Yes, chicken. I find that the sauce with honey, soy, and ginger really works well with the earthy notes in the wine. But hey, if you feel like doing it up with a steak or simply sipping this by the fireplace on a Wednesday night, go for it! I won’t judge

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Yield: 4 servings

  • 1 lb. boneless, skinless chicken thighs/breasts

  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced

  • ½ teaspoon ginger, minced

  • 4 tablespoons honey

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

  • Combine all the ingredients for the sauce

  • Over medium high heat in a skillet, pan sear the chicken in some oil. Reduce heat to medium after searing the first side

  • Cook them on both sides until browned, 3-4 minutes per side or until center is no longer pink.

  • Drain chicken on paper towels and remove any excess oil from the pan

  • Reduce heat to medium-low and put the chicken back in the pan with the sauce and bring to a gentle boil over medium-low heat until reduced. Flip the chicken to coat evenly with the sauce

If you loved it, tell me about it in the comments. If you did go with steak, I hope you tried this sauce as a dipping sauce. I hope you love this Cabernet Sauvignon as much as I did! Cheers!
